How Often Should You Get Your Pet’s Teeth Cleaned?

You’re brushing your pet’s teeth at home, right? 🦷 Regular brushing is important, but what about those professional dental cleanings? Let’s break down how often your pet should have their teeth cleaned.

Puppies and Kittens (Up to 1 Year)

Puppies and kittens are usually still getting their adult teeth during their first year, so a professional cleaning isn’t necessary just yet. But start getting them used to tooth brushing at home to set the foundation for healthy dental habits.
Adults (1–7 Years)

For most adult pets, annual dental exams are recommended. A full cleaning may be needed depending on your pet’s oral health. Some breeds (like small breeds or those with flat faces) are more prone to dental problems, so be sure to stay on top of their oral health!

Seniors (7+ Years)

Older pets need more frequent check-ups, as dental problems become more common with age. We recommend bi-annual cleanings to catch any early signs of gum disease or tooth decay. Plus, it’s easier (and less expensive) to prevent problems than to treat them once they’ve become serious.
Signs Your Pet Might Need a Cleaning Sooner

  • Bad breath that’s “extra stinky” 🦷

  • Yellow or brown tartar on teeth

  • Red, swollen gums or bleeding

  • Trouble eating or chewing their food

If you notice any of these signs, don’t wait! Your pet’s health is too important to ignore.
