Grooming in Hot and Humid Weather

Tanilba Bay's coastal climate can make grooming a bit trickier, especially during the hot, humid summer months. Here’s how to ensure your pet is comfortable in the heat:

  • Frequent Brushing: During hot and humid months, regular brushing is essential to remove excess fur, which can trap heat and moisture. This is especially important for long-haired breeds. For dogs and cats with double coats, like Golden Retrievers or Huskies, brushing helps remove the undercoat and reduces shedding.

  • Bathing: Bathing in the summer isn’t just about cleanliness—it helps to cool your pet down. Be sure to use a pet-safe shampoo to prevent skin irritation. After a bath, make sure your pet is thoroughly dried, especially in humid conditions, to prevent mold or mildew from forming on their fur.

  • Trim the Fur: If your pet’s coat is thick and long, consider having their fur trimmed to prevent overheating. Pay extra attention to areas like the belly, paws, and tail, as these areas can get quite warm.

  • Cooling Products: Consider investing in cooling mats, doggy cooling vests, or pet-friendly sunscreen to help your pet stay cool while outdoors. These can be especially helpful if you’re out on the beach or during long walks in the sun.
